Living in the bush

As a 42 year old woman, I did something pretty crazy a few months ago... I joined the local Rural Fire Brigade. So, as an active fire fighting officer I am currently undergoing training, attending controlled burns, all whilst being dressed as a giant banana in bright yellow.

Strangely, my partner wasn't too surprised. I am one of those people who gets up in the morning and goes and goes and goes until I can't go any more.

So this morning, fire fighting training started at 8.00am and after four hours of that, I came home and moved 3 cubic metres of soil and deco that I had delivered yesterday. Had to have it done today as driveway guys are coming in the morning to continue major repairs from January floods (I KNOW, IT'S NEARLY NOVEMBER and the storms were in January).

But the good news is that I now have a couple of vege patches ready for planting tomorrow with seedlings that I have grown myself. No rest for the wicked!

Will post pictures soon.

Hi from Clear Mountain

My partner (aka MOTH - man of the house) and I live on the side of a mountain, just north west of Brisbane called Clear Mountain. We are fortunate to have about 16 acres and have a variety of animals, who entertain us no end. We also have some part time children from my partner's previous relationship who also entertain us no end.

I've decided to start this blog to share with you the highs and lows of living a semi rural existence in South East Queensland, Australia. One thing I can promise you - no two days of our lives are ever the same and since we have lived here (since December 2009), our lives have been enriched beyond our expectations. We are surrounded by beauty, wildlife (good and not so good ones), our pets, family and friends and mother nature who is also constantly reminding us of her power and unpredictability.

So, over the next few blogs, I will introduce you to our place and how we do things here on the mountain, looking out to the ocean.

(Gotta go - storm coming)
